Welcome to the first video of The Ultimate Drawing Course for Beginners.
In my very first art class, our instructor had us bring in ink and different objects to draw with.
I remember drawing with forks, sticks, corncobs, toothpicks, and anything to experiment with.
At the time, I didn't understand what the instructor was trying to teach us. Only after I asked, she explained that it was to show that anything can be used for drawing and not to put limits on ourselves. But don't worry, you won't be needing sticks or corncobs here, we'll be using pencils.
In the past, I used to think that the quality and brand of the supplies mattered in order to draw properly. I was really wrong. Well, let me back up a little bit here. To an extent they kind of do, but not for learning. For learning, even a yellow, school pencil will do in a pinch. I often sketch with anything that I have within my reach.
Now the materials list for this course is limited to a few, easy-to-get items so you can get started immediately. I have also made an attempt at keeping the supplies to the bare minimum to save you a little bit of money but you will need to get a few things to get started. You will need pencils, erasers, paper, and a few other things.
Oh yeah, you will also need access to a printer, so that you can print out the reference photos that I'll be supplying you. I understand that when first buying art supplies it can be a bit daunting because there are so many choices out there. But I'll be happy to offer some suggestions or recommendations if you wish.
Ok, let's get started.
In this video, I introduce some optional items and materials that might make your learning better but are absolutely not necessary.
