Optional Items

I'm going to show you some things that I recommend to make your art journey a little bit easier and perhaps more enjoyable.

None of these things are required and I wouldn't want you to spend more money than you actually have to.

The first thing I recommend is getting a clipboard. Clipboards come in different ways you have the ones that have these clampdowns. Here's the other kind and they have clips that clamp down onto your paper.

Truth be told, I prefer this type of clipboard or drawing board, because it holds your paper, or the pad, a little bit
Better.

If you are crafty and you have the equipment, you can also make one for yourself. I made this one out of plywood and I don't know what this board is called but it's very soft. It's similar to this one.

So it's not very difficult. I just glued these two pieces together. And the reason I made that one is to accommodate larger pieces of paper because I like to draw large. To hold down the paper you can always use clips. These are very affordable. They're everywhere. These are also affordable and available at your hardware store.

Additionally, an easel is recommended. I prefer to draw on an easel. Just because I can stand up and really step away from my drawings or paintings, whatever I'm working on. But if you don't have an easel, it's okay.

If you had to choose between the easel and getting a clipboard, I would say get the clipboard, and the clipboard is actually way more affordable than the easel. And let me show you why I say
this is very important. So in art schools, they have these drawing horses and it's like a bench. And you lean your clipboard on the horse and then you draw. And it usually has it at a 45-degree angle.

I don't have a drawing horse at home. Or any kind of horse.

So one of the ways that you can do that is by taking a regular chair; I'm using the swivel chair that I have in my studio here, but you can use a kitchen chair and then sit on another chair.

You can rest the clipboard like this and this is a good angle. You can actually swing your arm around, which is very important to draw. Your elbow and all that has free movement. And you can actually stand up and look at your drawing, which is very important to see how your drawing is coming out. Alright, let's get to drawing.
